Jaipur is a fast-paced, two-player card game of trading and set collection where players compete to become the Maharaja's personal trader. The game revolves around acquiring and selling goods (represented by cards) at the market to earn the most rupees (victory points) before the end of each round. The core mechanic involves players choosing between taking cards from the market (a central display of goods and camels) or selling sets of goods they have collected in their hand. The market always consists of a combination of goods cards and camel cards.
Players strategically collect sets of valuable goods (diamonds, gold, silver, cloth, spices, and leather) and sell them to the market when they believe they have the largest sets, as selling earlier earns bonus tokens. Camels are crucial for maneuvering cards in the market. They act as a currency or buffer, allowing players to take multiple goods cards without necessarily having to discard any. When a player takes camels from the market, they take all the camels present. Players score points based on the value of the tokens earned for selling goods, with larger sets granting larger bonuses. The round ends when three types of goods are sold out or when all the cards in the deck are exhausted. The player with the most rupees at the end of a round receives a Seal of Excellence. The first player to collect two Seals of Excellence wins the game, becoming the Maharaja's preferred trader.
