The game is played with a deck of 52 cards, which includes 13 watermelon cards. The remaining cards are divided into four suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades.

To start the game, each player is dealt 7 cards. The remaining cards are placed in a pile in the center of the table.

On their turn, a player can do one of two things:

1. Draw a card from the deck.

2. Play a card from their hand.

If a player plays a watermelon card, they can immediately draw another card from the deck.

If a player plays a non-watermelon card, they can only draw a card from the deck if the card they played matches the suit of the top card on the discard pile.
